Appropriation Is Not As Easy As It Seems

Oftmals wird die “Aneignung”, das “Covern”, “Kopieren” von künstlerischen Werken mit einem abschätzigen Blick bedacht, obwohl sie ein gundlegender Bestandteil des Erlernens sind.
Das “Kopieren” von “großen Meistern” hat eine lange Tradition in künstlerischen Ausbildungen. Es öffnet ein tieferes Verständnis für die jeweilige Arbeit und lädt zum eigenen Experimentieren ein.

Ich versuchte mich an zwei Arbeiten Frida Kahlos:
“Das verletzte Reh” und “Wassermelonen”.

Today, the “appropriation”, the “covering”, “copying” of artistic works is often viewed with a disparaging eye, although they are a fundamental part of learning.
The “copying” of “great masters” has a great tradition in artistic education. It opens up a deeper understanding of the respective work and invites you to experiment yourself.

I tried my hand at two works by Frida Kahlo:
“The injured deer” and “Watermelons”.
